What is LPG
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a mix of butane and propane. It is used as an alternative fuel for vehicles and is commonly called autogas. Because LPG is made up of gases it is a very clean fuel to burn.
LPG is transported in liquid form. When it is at normal temperature and under atmospheric pressure it turns to gas, under no pressure and refrigeration it is a liquid making it easier to transport.
How is it produced
LPG is a by product of oil production and used to be regarded and waste and burnt off. The Uk is Europe's largest producer of LPG with the North Sea's crude oil a major contributor.
Autogas
LPG is fast becoming very popular with motorists and the number of vehicles on the roads using LPG is increasing all the time. One of the main benefits of using LPG is the saving in cost as the duty on LPG is far less than alternative fuel like petrol for example. Another major advantage is that LPG producing less carbon emissions that other fuel types making it the most environmentally friendly option as well as being cheaper.
